Overview


This is a headache which is caused by structural issues in the neck. There is associated limitation of movement and tenderness and triggering of the headache on movement of the neck.

Symptoms & Diagnosis


The headache is described as a steady ache which an increase in intensity at times. They are normally on one side of the head or neck and/or face. It can be difficult to diagnoses and the symptoms can mimic other headaches such as migraine and tension-type headache. Headache can be triggered on movement of the neck and there may be associated limitation of neck movement. Diagnosis normally involves imaging of the head and neck as well as nerve blocks.

  • Treatment

    Oral treatment and nerve blocks are commonly used. Nerve blocks can be used as part of the diagnosis as well as in the management.

  • Prognosis

    It is generally a chronic condition but once diagnosed it can be well managed with treatment.
